Disabling these services will not only make your machine a little safer, but will speed things up a bit. To disable services, go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services and disable the following:

o Human Interface Access Devices
o Indexing Service
o Messenger
o Net Logon
o Netmeeting Remote Desktop Sharing (Good for remote support)
o Remote Desktop Help Session Manager
o Remote Procedure Call Locator
o Remote Registry
o Routing & Remote Access
o SSDP Discovery Service
o TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
o Telnet
o Upload Manager
o Windows Time
o Wireless Zero Configuration
